1 Villa to beat Wigan @ 11/8

Aston Villa are still well and truly in the Premier League relegation scrap, but their massive win over Manchester City may well kick-start their season. Darren Bent scored his first goal for the club on his debut at the weekend and his firepower should keep Villa moving in the right direction.

Wigan are possibly the most unpredictable team in the division, but a lack of goals could cost them against Gerard Houllier’s men and may ultimately cost them their place in the top flight.

2 Doncaster to win derby v Barnsley @ 20/21

These two South Yorkshire rivals meet at the Keepmoat on Tuesday and home advantage is likely to prove a crucial factor. Rovers have lost just twice at home this season and will be desperate to put back-to-back league losses behind them as quickly as possible.

Barnsley have lost their main attacking threat, Adam Hammill, and with just two wins on their travels may find themselves falling closer to the relegation zone.

3 New Zealand to defeat Pakistan @ 8/11

Having lost the Test series, the Black Caps are determined to turn the tide in the one-day series and already have a 1-0 lead going into Tuesday’s second ODI in Queenstown. The home side demolished the tourists by nine wickets in Wellington, bowling Pakistan out for just 124 in only 37.3 overs.

Tim Southee took five wickets in that match while Jessie Ryder smashed a half century, and New Zealand’s top order will have a key role to play in the second match.

4 Crewe to beat Bradford @ 10/11

Crewe have started to recapture their form in recent weeks and are now establishing a League Two promotion bid, following just two defeats in their last eight games. At home their form is particularly impressive, winning their last three at the Alexandra Stadium.

Bradford’s form has been patchy all season with just three wins on the road to date. Peter Taylor’s men are seventh from bottom and have lost their last three games.

5 Aberdeen to win at Inverness @ 2/1

Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Celtic was Aberdeen’s first in six matches since Craig Brown took charge – that run also includes two away wins at Hibs and Hamilton. That run of results has seen them move seven points clear of bottom sport in the SPL.

Inverness may be four places and nine points above the Dons, but their form has been better on the road than at the Caledonian Stadium. In fact, Terry Butcher’s men have won just two of their 11 home games.

Wales have yet to pick up a point in their qualifying campaign to date, losing away at Montenegro and at home to Bulgaria, both 1-0, and currently prop the table – along with tonight’s opponents.

The Swiss have also lost both of their opening group games, 3-1 at home to England and 1-0 away at Montenegro, and defeat for either side will seriously harm their chances of even finishing second.

Wales captain Williams, who is hoping to shake off an ankle injury, concedes that Ottmar Hitzfeld’s side may well dominate large parts of the game, but he believes that Bale (7/2 to score at anytime) will provide plenty of attacking threat.

“Everyone knows how good a player he is,” said Williams.

“He’s probably going to find it tough when he plays for Wales, especially if we don’t have Craig Bellamy and Aaron Ramsey playing.

“He’s our biggest attacking threat and teams are going to pay special attention to him.

“But I think he’s a good enough player to deal with that.

“They will have a lot of the ball and hopefully we can get it to him on the break and let him do his stuff.

“I think he really gave it a go against Bulgaria, he did make things happen, and if he plays in an advanced role, that’s the way he plays.”

The 1-0 defeat in Montenegro last month saw John Toshack end his six-year reign as the Wales (33/1 to qualify for Euro 2012) boss, with Brian Flynn taking over the senior side on a temporary basis following an impressive spell in charge of the Under-21s.

Flynn is looking to use the two games he is leading the side to make a case for a permanent role, although he did his cause no favours with a 1-0 defeat to Bulgaria on Friday.

However, Flynn has not been helped by a whole host of injuries to his squad which will leave him without 12 players for tonight’s game and Blackpool midfielder David Vaughan insists all the players will be doing their best for the manager.

“No one wants to let him [Flynn] down and hopefully he will get the job, regardless of the results, if we play well,” said Vaughan.

“Hopefully we can do the job for him.

“We have only had a few days’ training with him but if he is around long term I think you will see the benefits in the performances.”

Despite experiencing continual problems with a knee injury King managed to play a vital role in Spurs’ Champions League qualification and has been rewarded with a spot in Fabio Capello’s 30-man provisional squad (England 1/3 to win Group C).

Crouch has known King since they were trainees together at White Hart Lane and has always been convinced of his quality: “I’ve known Ledley since I was 13 in my first spell at Spurs.

“He was fantastic even then. Even then you knew he was going to be world class and he has proven that.

“As long as he can prove his fitness, he will be up there as one of the best centre-halfs at the World Cup.?

King has won 19 caps for England, but has not played for his country since Fabio Capello became manager.

The Italian selected the Tottenham star for his first England squad, only for King to withdraw due to injury. Capello then picked King again for the 2009 games against Slovakia and Ukraine, but he was removed from the squad after being assessed by England’s medical staff.

Crouch though, thinks that King can overcome his injury worries to cement his spot in the final squad: “He has proved his quality this season, hopefully he has proved his fitness.

“He played the last three games of the season, all for the 90 minutes, he came through those and trained this week with England as well.

“Ledley has to be managed a bit different to the rest of the players. He has to do his own thing and train when he feels capable of it.

“Without a doubt, the manager thinks it is worthwhile him coming and, on his day when he is fit, there are not many as good as him.”

King doesn’t train with the rest of the first team squad at Tottenham, as the club seek to manage the swelling on his knee after games.

The 29-year old rarely plays in more than game per week due to the swelling, but managed to play in all three of the games in Spurs’ vital last week of the season.

King has been tipped to play in a defensive midfield role for England at the World Cup, if Gareth Barry is unable to recover from injury, having previously performed in the position for both club and country.
