Tigers and totesport continue link

Hull City looked good in their new adidas kit, sponsored by totesport.com, on Wednesday evening when they comfortably beat North Ferriby 6-0 in a pre-season friendly.

The club are confident the new kit will be worn to success as they look to immediately bounce back and return to the Premier League after relegation last season.

Hull have seen a few changes ahead of the new campaign with Nigel Pearson coming in as new manager, Adidas as a new kit manufacturer and a few different faces in the playing squad, but totesport’s support remains.

The bookmaker has continued its sponsorship of the Tigers as they go into the second year of the two-year deal with the club and is offering fans a tempting 16/1 about them topping the table.

The Tigers have had a strong start to preparations ahead of their new life in the Championship after beating Winterton Rangers 2-1 and romping home to beat North Ferriby.

Goals from Peter Halmosi, Mark Cullen, Daniel Cousin, Will Atkinson, Danny Emerton and new signing Noberto Solano secured the win over the Northern Premier League Division One side.

Solano joined City after playing for Leicester last season under Pearson and will add some experience to a side which is looking to blood some young players in the Championship.

The former Aston Villa and Newcastle United winger will join up with Premier League veteran Nicky Barmby who will be looking to feature in Pearson’s plans this season.

Barmby played alongside his new manager when the pair were at Middlesbrough and the 36-year-old believes the new Tigers boss will do well at the KC Stadium.

He said: “You can tell certain players are going to stay on in the game and become a manager and Nige was one of those characters.

“I still have a lot of desire to be involved in the first team but with the young lads there is a lot of fulfilment there and I’m really enjoying it,” he added.

The Yorkshire side will face a tough challenge as they look to return to the top flight in a Championship division with plenty of strong-looking squads.

Hull will also have some juicing Yorkshire derbies, with Leeds United, Sheffield United, Doncaster Rovers and Barnsley all looking to have successful seasons.

Ferguson denies Sneijder link

Manchester United boss Sir Alex FergusonManchester United (12/5 to win the Premier League)  boss Sir Alex Ferguson has dismissed speculation that the club have had an offer turned down for Wesley Sneijder by Inter Milan.

The Dutch midfielder has attracted interest from a number of clubs after putting in some impressive performances at the World Cup in South Africa.

Sneijder is currently preparing for the final of the competition as Holland take on pre-tournament favourites Spain in Johannesburg on Sunday night.

The Inter midfielder is currently joint top goalscorer at the World Cup and could win the golden boot award if he scores and Spain’s David Villa fails to find the back of the net.

United are just one club that have been linked with a move to buy the 26-year-old however Ferguson has refuted claims the club have had an offer rejected for the player.

He said: “I don’t know where those reports about Sneijder came from.

“How can anybody turn me down when I haven’t even made a bid?”

“I believe the squad is stronger than last season with the younger players having another year under their belts,” he added.

The United manager has also denied claims that the Old Trafford club are lining up a bid for Wolfsburg’s Mesut Ozil who has also had an impressive World Cup with Germany – who finished in third place in the tournament after they beat Uruguay 3-2 on Saturday.

Sneijder could win his fourth trophy this season after helping Inter Milan win a domestic double and the coveted Champions League title and a World Cup trophy would complete a stunning season.

Jose Mourinho, who led the Italian giants to an astonishing season, has moved on to Real Madrid and it is now former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez’s task to keep hold of their key players ahead of next season.

Manchester City and United have both been linked with Inter striker Mario Balotelli, who was not a regular first-team player under Mourinho.

The 19-year-old has revealed his admiration for both Manchester clubs and could be tempted by a move to the Premier League if Benitez does not offer him regular football.

United begin their Premier League campaign against newly promoted Newcastle United as the club look to win back the top flight title from rivals Chelsea (Manchester United 1/5, draw 9/2, Newcastle United 11/1).

United reject Cole link

Manchester United have ruled out a swoop for Joe Cole, currently on World Cup duty with England, which could pave the way for north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal to make a move (Arsenal 6/1 to win the Premier League 2010/2011).

Cole will be a free-agent as of July 1 when his contract with Chelsea comes to an end and the Stamford Bridge side have already confirmed Cole will move on.

A number of clubs are said to be keen on the former West Ham playmaker and reports earlier this week suggested the Old Trafford side were the most likely candidates to secure a deal.

However, the Guardian newspaper have now claimed a source has told them United have no interest in the 28-year-old, which would allow Arsenal and Spurs to move in.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp confirmed he was keen to sign Cole after it became clear he had no future with Chelsea but Redknapp has since stated he has been unable to speak to Cole and believed he had agreed terms elsewhere.

This would now appear not to be the case as the midfielder is focussing on his international commitments and Redknapp will move quickly as soon as the World Cup is over to try and seal a deal.

However, Arsenal have also been mooted as potential suitors for Cole and a battle for the player’s signature could erupt between the two north London rivals.

Redknapp has worked with Cole before when manager to West Ham and the current Spurs boss was the manager who gave Cole his debut in the Premier League.

Spurs also have Champions League football to offer for the first time in their history, while Cole will already know the likes of Aaaron Lennon, Jermaine Defoe and Peter Crouch, amongst others at White Hart Lane, having played alongside the Spurs men in the England squad (Spurs 50/1 to win the Premier League).

Arsenal face the very real prospect of losing captain Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona this summer and if the Spaniard does decide to leave they will be eager to find a suitable replacement.

Although Cole and Fabregas are not particularly similar in playing-style the England international could well fit in to the Arsenal line-up and boss Arsene Wenger has already confirmed he is keen to bring in some new faces over the summer to boost the Gunners chances of securing some silverware next season.

It appears Cole will not decide upon anything until after the World Cup, but as soon as England’s tournament is over he will probably have a number of options to consider with current reports suggesting Spurs and Arsenal are leading the chase for his signature.
