Fabregas back with Gunners

Cesc Fabregas returned to Arsenal for pre-season training on Thursday and the Gunners remain positive that he will still be at the Emirates by the end of the month (4/6 Arsenal – top-4 finish in 2010-11).

The Spain midfielder was given an extended break following his exploits at this summer’s World Cup, amidst more speculation over his club future.

Barcelona made a bid for the Gunners skipper earlier this summer, believed to be in the region of £30million, with the La Liga champions still keen on doing a deal before the window closes at the end of August.

But Arsene Wenger is adamant that he has no intention of selling the midfielder and feels he can play a key role for Arsenal again this season.

The Gunners boss, who has held regular meetings with Fabregas, says the player is not for sale at any price and it looks like arsenal could win the battle.

The 23-year-old (7/1 – Arsenal top goalscorer 2010-11) looked relaxed and comfortable around his team-mates on Thursday and joined the rest of the squad for an open training session in front of thousands of Arsenal fans.

Meanwhile, Gunners winger Theo Walcott says he is confident the Arsenal star will stay in north London despite all the speculation.

The England international admits he has always enjoyed playing in the same team as the World Cup winner and is looking forward to teaming up with Fabregas (9/1 to be 2010-11 PFA Player of the Year) again this term

Walcott said: “I’m looking forward to seeing him back. He’s a fantastic player for us and our captain. After Spain’s victory, it’s a nice bonus to have a World Cup winner by your side.”

He added: “Cesc’s a big player for Arsenal so I’m looking forward to playing with him next season. After that (the World Cup) he just needed a good mental break from it all.”

Another youngster who looks set to play a bigger role for the Gunners this season is Jack Wilshere, following his loan spell at Bolton last season.

Wenger has indicated that the midfielder is unlikely to go out on loan again this term, with Wilshere pushing for a regular first-team berth.

The 18-year-old is believed to be on the verge of a full England call-up for next week’s friendly with Hungary having been omitted from the England Under-21 camp.

Gunners losing battle to keep Cesc

Arsenal are 7/1 to win the Premier League next season but Barcelona defender Gerard Pique says Cesc Fabregas will not be there to help them as he is determined to return to the Nou Camp.

Speculation continues to rumble on over the future of Fabregas but it seems as though the midfielder has made up his mind over where his future lies, and it is not with Arsenal.

Before he jetted off to the World Cup with Spain, Fabregas made it clear to Gunners boss Arsene Wenger that he would like to return to the Nou Camp and nothing has happened since to change his mind.

If anything his desire to return to the club he left as a 15-year-old has grown even more after being surrounded by a host of Barcelona players for the last four weeks.

The World Cup could not have come at a worse time for Arsenal and it comes as no surprise to hear Pique say how the Barca players have been urging him to sign.

“I have known that Cesc wanted to join Barcelona for many years – but now it is more than about wanting to do it,”  Pique revealed.

“Now it is something he feels he must do. The World Cup has not been a good thing for Arsenal.
“It has meant that he has been spending every day with myself, Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Victor Valdes – and he has made his feelings very clear to us.

“He is keeping his mind focused on Spain but his heart is in Barcelona. I think already in his heart he is wearing a Barcelona shirt next season.”

However no matter what Pique or Fabregas think, the final decision will be made by the Gunners and if Barca do not stump up the cash then the player is going nowhere.

Reports now claim that further talks between the two parties will continue this week and Barcelona are confident of landing their man once the World Cup is over.

No contact from Barca – Gunners

Arsenal have claimed Barcelona have not been in touch about the potential signing of the Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal 6/1 to win the Premier League outright).

The Gunners chairman Peter Hill-Wood has stated that he has heard nothing from Barcelona concerning their coveted player.

Barca have won La Liga this year and have already looked to strengthen their side for next season with the signing of Valencia striker David Villa.

Fabregas has stated that he would like to move to Barca at some point in his career and speculation has increased as to whether he may move in the summer before he flies to the World Cup in South Africa with the Spanish national team (Spain 4/1 to win the World Cup outright).

“You see your Spanish team-mates succeeding here at Barcelona and it is exciting because you have worked alongside them for so long,” said Fabregas.

“I think I would like to go to Barcelona, whether or not they want me is another thing.”

The Catalan club have clearly shown interest in the 23-year-old, who started his career in Barcelona’s academy.

Spanish team-mate and current Barca star Xavi has stated that he would love to play alongside the Arsenal player at club level.

He said: “It is criminal for a player of Cesc’s quality not to be winning the biggest prizes in football.

“He really has no choice but to leave. He is making the right decision and I hope Arsenal fans wish him well.”

The Spanish giants sporting director Txiki Begiristain has stated that the club will respect the current contract Fabregas has at Arsenal.

Begiristain has described the young midfielder as a “Barca (style) player” but admits that the player, who is key to future success at Arsenal, will be difficult to prise away from the London club.

Arsenal have gone yet another season without any silverware and manager Arsene Wenger is looking to bring in new faces whilst trying to hold on to his star players.

The Gunners boss has stated that conceding 40 goals last season was the reason his side could not win the Premier League title and that he is looking to sign one or two defensive players over the summer.
