Tevez admits he could quit football

Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez has admitted he is disillusioned with football and could quit the game (City 15/2 to win Premier League).

The Argentine forward has reiterated the comments he made over the summer, when he said he could quit professional football because he struggles to motivate himself.

He admits that he currently feels drained and that the stress of being one of the most high profile players in the Premier League is affecting his body and mind.

Despite this, he has been instrumental in the improvement of City’s form so far this season, which has seen the Eastlands outfit overcome a shaky start to the season to sit in second place in the Premier League.

The striker has also lead by example as City’s captain after being handed the armband by boss Roberto Mancini. However, this has done little to reinvigorate him and he has now told The News of the World that he is thinking of quitting, citing the number of games he has played this season as being contributory to his tiredness.

The 26-year-old said: “I’m an old guy now, and I started to think about some stuff. For example, I am less tolerant as a person today than I was a few years ago.

“Then I think – what happens if I quit football as long as I am okay in my life?

“When I talk about quitting, I mean quitting football, not just the national team. But at the moment I still don’t know if this is going to be in one month, one year, three or five years.

“I have the idea of quitting in my mind. Maybe one of these days, I will just wake up and say no more football.”

As well as professional issues, Tevez has admitted that his workload is affecting his family life. He says that since playing in England he has not shared a single Christmas or New Year with his nearest and dearest and this is contributing to his lack of enjoyment with life as a footballer.

City fans will be hoping that Tevez does not decide to hang up his boots just yet, particularly as he is in such influential form, having scored five League goals this season. They currently sit four points behind League leaders Chelsea but they are the team in form having beaten the Blues 1-0 at Eastlands before backing this up with a 2-1 success against Newcastle.

Roberto Mancini will be hoping that this form continues in City’s next game against Blackpool next Sunday.

Toshack ‘to quit Wales’

John Toshack is ready to walk out on Wales’ Euro 2012 qualification campaign (Yes 20/1, No 1/150 – To Qualify) following their 1-0 opening defeat in Montenegro on Friday, according to reports.

The 61-year-old was already under pressure going into their opening Group G (Wales 33/1 – Group G Winner) clash in Podgorica, having failed to get the country into a major tournament since he took charge of team affairs six years ago. And the defeat to Montenegro has left question marks hanging over Toshack’s future especially when he admitted that Wales’ chances of reaching Euro 2012 would be slim if they fail to defeat a Bulgarian side thrashed 4-0 by England at Wembley on Friday, in their next match.

The former Real Madrid coach’s admission was a far cry from before a ball was kicked last week when he felt the emergence of young talent in the Wales squad was finally about to come of age and fire them to qualification.

Former Wales midfielder Robbie Savage has already stuck the boot in on Toshack and demanded he be axed from the post. The veteran Derby midfielder infamously quit international football after a row with the manager five years ago.

He said on BBC Radio Five Live: “It is time John Toshack left Wales.

“I think we need a fresh start, fresh impetus. We need to get the crowds back and I think Toshack has to go.

“He has made enough excuses, he has been in the job six years. Judge him on his qualifying campaigns – they haven’t qualified yet and they have got off to a terrible start again.”

There has yet to be any official word from the Football Association of Wales to validate the rumours that Toshack is set to depart. However, if he does leave then the race will be on to get a new man on board ahead of next month’s vital games against Bulgaria and Switzerland.

Jose Mourinho to Quit? “My only options are Madrid or Inter”

jose mourinho 210x300 Jose Mourinho to Quit? My only options are Madrid or Inter Jose Mourinho has admitted that the only two options for him this summer are to stay at Inter or make the switch to Real Madrid.

Mourinho has not officially been contacted by Madrid but the Portuguese has fuelled speculation after telling the Italian press, “I want to coach Real 100 per cent. If it is next year or later, I can’t say.

“All I say is that if you are a coach or a great player, to not play in a club like Madrid leaves a hole in your career.”

Mourinho has established himself as one of the world’s most prestigious managers, winning titles in Portugal, England and Italy – so far.

The former Chelsea boss is always looking for a new challenge and that, combined with his fiery relationship with the Italian media, could lead to an exit from the Milan side.

Mourinho has publically commented on the fact that he and his family don’t feel at home in Italy and has blasted the Italian FA for making him what he describes as a hate figure.

A move to the Spanish capital would certainly provide Mourinho with a fresh start and what would surely be his biggest managerial challenge to date.

Current Real coach Manuel Pellegrini and his side amassed 96 points in the league this season and were only beaten to the title by a rampant Barcelona side on the final day.

So, if Mourinho does make the switch, he can expect enormous pressure to win both La Liga and the Champions League in his first season – most Real Madrid managers don’t get two.
