Asian Handicap Odds Guide
What are Asian Handicap Odds?
Asian Handicap betting is becoming increasingly popular with western punters, particularly in Europe, with many online bookmakers providing this type of bet.
Also known as Asian Line betting, it is the most common method of wagering on football in the Far East. It provides good value to the bettor and can be less risky than traditional ‘Win-Draw-Win’ type betting. The handicap is based on the relative strengths of the two competing soccer teams. Effectively, the side thought to be weaker are given a head start. The bigger the apparent difference between the two football teams, the bigger the head start given. This eliminates the gap in skill between the favoured team and the underdog, which gives you the chance to find value in games where teams are unequal.
Put simply, Asian Handicap odds eliminate the option of a draw in a soccer match, so you have only two bet options instead of three.
Most experienced bettors would agree that Asian Handicap is a more profitable type of bet than traditional fixed odds. Read our tips guide below to learn the rules of AH wagering and find out the advantages of these type of bets.
Asian Handicap Explained

Away Team |

Odds for Home Win |
Odds for Away Win |
Arsenal |
Liverpool |
0 : 1/2 |
1.975 |
1.925 |
This can be read as: "Arsenal giving a 1/2 ball to Liverpool". This means that Liverpool have a 1/2 ball advantage when the match starts.
a) If you bet on Arsenal you win (stake x odds) if Arsenal win the match, otherwise you will lose.
b) If you bet on Liverpool you win (stake x odds) if the match ends in a draw or Liverpool win the match.
To see how much you can win or lose, see the Asian Handicap Calculator further down the page.
Example of a bet on this game
Bet 1 : You bet $100 on Arsenal (the stake is $100)
Bet 2 : You bet $100 on Liverpool (the stake is $100)

Match Result: Arsenal v Liverpool |
Home (Arsenal) -1/2 |

* 0-0 or any draw (eg. 1-1, 2-2, 3-3 etc)
** means any home win by 2 goals or more (3-1, 4-2, etc)
*** If the result is greater than 0-1, (eg. 0-2, 1-3 or 1-4 etc), you look at the 0-1 row. Conversely, if it is a home win by 3 goals or more (4-0, 6-1, etc) you look at the 3-0 row.
For example, lets say the game ended 0-1.
Bet 1 ($100 on Arsenal): You lose $100
Bet 2 ($100 on Liverpool): You win $197.50 (your net profit is $197.50 - $100 = $97.50)
Conclusion:
Look at the Asian Handicap Calculation. If it shows +100% you win. If it shows -100% you lose.
How much do you win if you win your bet ? (a +100% in the result rows): Win = Stake x Odds. Net profit = Win - Stake
How much do you lose if you lose your bet ? (a -100% in the result rows): Your full stake

Odds for Away Win |
Everton |

2.075 |
1.825 |
This can be read as: "Everton giving a 3/4 ball to Charlton. This means that Charlton have a 3/4 ball advantage when the match starts.
a) If you bet on Everton you win (stake x odds) if Everton win by two goals or more.
b) If you bet on Everton you win 50% of your stake if Everton win by one goal.
c) If you bet on Charlton you win (stake x odds) if Charlton win or the game is a draw.
d) If you bet on Charlton you lose 50% of your stake if Everton win by one goal.
Example of a bet on this game
Bet 1: You bet $100 on Everton (the stake is $100)
Bet 2: You bet $100 on Charlton (the stake is $100)

-100% |
You win (stake x odds) = $207.50 |
You lose your full stake ($100) |
Tip: If you look at the 1-0 results the row shows a +50% win or a -50% loss
Bet 1 ($100 on Everton):
Win = $100 x 2.075 = $207.50
Net profit (win - stake) = $207.50 - $100 = $107.50
But since the match ended in a draw your winnings are just 50%.
Therefore your win decreases by 50%, and you get 50% of $107.50 (In other words: $107.50 / 2) = $53.75
Bet 2 ($100 on Charlton):
This bet loses, but because the match ended in a draw you only lose half your stake.
In this case $100 / 2 = $50
Conclusion:
Look at the Asian Handicap Calculation. If it shows +50% you win. If it shows –50% you lose.
How much do you win if you win your bet ? (a +50 in the result rows): Win = Stake x Odds. Net Profit = (Win - Stake) / 2
How much do you lose if you lose your bet (a -50 in the result rows): Half of your stake
