While Barcelona are going viral by taking the mickey out of anyone and everyone who crosses their part, the rest of La Liga is trying to catch up the huge gap between them and Luis Enrique’s Catalans. Matches this week will change the top and bottom of the table regardless of results, we could see Villareal make a real statement.
What’s the best way to announce yourself to the Spanish media? Score the winner in a derby match, in the home of your arch rivals, and that’s what Mikel Oyarzabal will want to do. At just 18, there’s the question about whether he’ll have the grit to take a kicking from the Bilbao defenders. The last four Basque derbies have been draws, Athletic haven’t won one in the last eight meetings, it’s a shocking record. Don’t expect a lot of goals either. I’m thinking another draw with ‘Bigfoot’ Oyarzabal to score
This is a huge game for Real if they want to get back into the title chase. But it’s sticky. Malaga have been the kings of the goal less draw in Spain this year, including getting one at the Bernabeu. And with Raphael Varane missing for Madrid, there’s a chance of a shock. It’s Zidane’s first real test as a manager, the fixture congestion comes in from here, and away at a hostile ground, I’m tipping a score draw
Atleti have a six point lead over Villareal, and Fernando Torress after going months without scoring has two in his last two, finally taking him past the 100 goal mark in La Liga. Villareall have Europa League during the week, so will want to rest some of their bigger names in preparation for that. Atleti are in the title race, and another simple win to keep pace. Torres to score and Atletico to win

It’s been an interesting week to say the least in Spain. Barcelona are beginning to get that familiar stranglehold on the division, while only six points seperate the bottom five teams. This week it’s the turn of Celta Vigo to try and stop the unstoppable, but they have done so before.
Barcelona have finally got their Player of the Month awards, and they’ve now gone 29 games at the Camp Nou unbeaten – that’s another record broken by Luis Enrique and I believe they’ll make it thirty. Celta love frustrating his side though, beating them 4-1 and winning at the Camp in recent seasons. Barca have been starting slowly this season, so go for a HT/FT of Draw/Barcelona at

Valencia vs Espanyol
IT WILL HAPPEN THIS WEEK. I am certain of it. Valencia will win this game. They’ve got Alcacer and Caicedo coming back into form, they’re up against an Espanyol side in absolute freefall, and at home at the Mestalla, they should come out on top. Then again, I’ve said that for a couple of weeks and they’ve underperformed considerably. If it doesn’t happen now, it might not ever. Back a Valencia win with Alcacer anytime.
Real Madrid vs Atletic Bilbao
There is one key battle in this game and that is between Raphael Varane and Aritz Aduriz. The 35 year old is proving everyone wrong by continuing his scoring streak and he is the reason that Bilbao are where they are this season. If Varane can get on top and bully him early, it’ll be key to a Madrid win. Bilbao are depleted, and away from home I just don’t think they’ll have enough. Back the Blancos with both teams to score

Gary Neville is going to win at some stage. But I’ve almost been the kiss of death for him recently, so I’m avoiding Valencia totally this week after their humiliation. Instead, I’ve looked through the odds and picked out a nice 4/1 double involving Real and Barcelona.
Granada have beaten both Real and Barcelona at home over the last few seasons. They did win their last game as well against Sevilla thanks to a goal from the brilliantly named Isaac Success.
Real are starting to flex their muscles at the top though. A minor slip up against Valencia should be put right on Sunday. Back a Real win with both teams to score. Success is to score again, maybe look at Modric for Los Blancos
Zinedine Zidane will be hoping for a slip up by Luis Enrique’s side, but I don’t think it’ll happen.
Barca have hit top form, and destroyed Valencia during the week. Even when 7 goals up, they still went forward with quick and fast attacks, looking for more.
Could Guiseppe Rossi debut in the best way possible? Maybe. He’s to score anytime for Levante. I think the bet to take is over 2.5 goals and a Barcelona victory. They’ve got the lead at the top now and they very rarely relinquish them.
Eibar have been the surprise package in La Liga this season. You could fit the entire population of the city inside the Calderon and have space. Their ground only holds 7,00 people, and somehow they sit 8th in the table. They go to Atleti this week ont he back of three straight wins, scoring 11 goals in the process. Borja Baston got four of those and is Eibar’s top scorer.
One problem. He’s on loan from Atleti, meaning that Eibar will have to stump up cash if they want him to play against his parent club, who are missing a whole host of players. If he plays he scores. But back Atleti to win by one goal at

There’s only one game on everyone’s lips this weekend in Spain as the top two go head to head at the Camp Nou. At the bottom Las Palmas and Levante will both leap out of the relegation zone with victories over Celta Vigo and Sevilla respectively. Elsewhere Gary Neville STILL needs his first La Liga win
People have been looking forward to this clash for weeks, simply because we’ll know on Sunday whether Atleti will have the quality to keep pace at the top as they try to wrestle back the La Liga title off of Barcelona. Their record against the Catalonians is not good however, just one win in 14 attempts and no goal for Antoine Griezmann in five appearances against Barca. They’ve only conceded three goals away from home all year however. But I don’t think they’ll have enough. Back Suarez to score at and a home win at
I know I’ve tipped Gary Neville to get his first La Liga win the last couple of times, but I’m certain that this week it’s happening. Sporting are second to last, they’ve lost eight of their eleven away games. But after losing 5-1 to Real two weeks ago, they came out and destroyed Sociedad by the same scoreline. My tip is to back the in play. If Valencia score first, they’ll win at. If they don’t back the score draw. Gijon’s best hope for a goal is Sanabria at to open the scoring
Espanyol actually have a decent record in the Bernebau. Despite losing heavily on many an occasion, they’ve been able to grab a draw against the Galacticos twice over the last four seasons. But they haven’t won in almost a decade, and were beaten 6-0 at home by Real earlier in the season. Zidane’s Madrid have been scoring for fun, and the handicap of Real -3 is too good not to take on this occasion, especially when you take into account the extent of Espanyol’s injuries. They’re missing six first team players.

Even though there’s been no English channels in Spain, I’m still backing the BBC to do the business for Real, and Gary Neville to pick up his first La Liga win
This is looking quite an easy one on paper to predict. Barcelona will win. The 5-1 aggregate win at the start of August for Bilbao will give them hope, but the two sides have both changed incredibly since then. Just two wins since the start of December for Bilbao, compared to Barca who have only drawn twice since then, the rest victories. Bilbao are missing Aduriz and Raul Garcia so the pressure will be on Inaki Williams to score anytime at . But overall, a Barca win at
Gijon did win in the Bernebau a couple of seasons ago, but there is no chance there will be a repeat of that. Sporting have to be careful as they could slip to the bottom of the table, maybe go all out defensive. But it still won’t be enough. Madrid are chasing down the top spot. Bale, Ronaldo and Benzema should ease them through a weak Gijon defense. The handicap of Madrid -3 could be worth a punt at, as is Gareth Bale first to score at
Gary Neville still needs his first win. And he’s going to get it here. Vallecano will put up a fight, but expect the home side to come out on top. I’m expecting there to be plenty of goals, maybe back over 3.5 goals . In terms of goalscorers, Negredo against his home town club at is value. Valencia to win at
